Things we sometimes forget ...

I have learned an invaluable lesson this last week, and it’s one I will never forget. We are all in control of our own lives, destinies, goals, dreams, and emotions. No one else can control us unless we let them. I think we sometimes forget that. I think it is so unfortunate that it is easier to find people who will tell you that you are not smart enough, not pretty enough, or can’t do it, opposed to people who are there to support you and tell you that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

When you are little parents, and everyone around you it seems, tell you that you can do anything you want to do, and be anything you want to be. So why does this change as we get older? Why is it that we believe them and think we are invincible, but then go into the world as teenagers or adults and let them (sometimes even the same people) tear us down and say we are not good enough, that we can’t do it, that we should give up on the dream we once had and ‘face reality’.

I think we need to believe in ourselves and believe that we are in control of ourselves. If we want to do it, we can. If we want to be it, we will. If we can dream it, it can come true.
